Casa de Canedo is a 17th century manor-house, hub of a 50 hectare (124 acres) agricultural and forestry estate. In its present form the house comprises the original 17th-century  square-built building with an interior yard - where the residential area and services are located - and an adjoining chapel to which was added an 18th-century building - the so-called "Casas Novas" (New Houses) - thus extending the main building and circumscribing the front yard.

Situated in the heart of the Basto Region, famous for its natural beauty and for its celebrated "vinho verde" (green wines), Casa de Canedo is equidistant from Celorico de Basto, Mondim de Basto and Cabeceiras de Basto.

Nestled in a peaceful valley, the House stands against the background of the foothills of the Alvão and Marão Mountains, and the church of Senhora da Graça  on the top of a hill on the other bank of  River Tâmega. This is a transition area where bucolic Minho begins to harmoniously blend with austere Trás-os-Montes. Canedo is, therefore, an ideal place to explore the contrasting natural beauty spots and to discover the varied cultural and folklore heritage of this region.
