The purpose of this itinerary is to provide an independent self-drive program for a family and where you will have the opportunity to stay in fabulous properties and enjoy those precious moments of being together and relaxed. This itinerary covers Lisbon, the capital of Portugal where your family can decide if you will have more free time on your own or if you wish to take some suggested and fun activities while in the city. After Lisbon, you'll explore the North of Portugal, but always enjoying fun activities for families.

Day 1 - Arrival in Lisbon, car rental collection and departure to your hotel in Lisbon. (Optional Moto Side Car to discover Lisbon).

Accommodation for 3 nights at Pestana Palace*****

Day 2 - Discover the city of Lisbon… (Optional: Private Yacht Sailing at the Tagus River for a different visit of Lisbon). In the afternoon you will make a Private Half Day Tour with guide.

Day 3 - Today you will discover the village of Sintra and the Estoril Coast on your own.

Day 4 - Hotel Check-out and proceed to Coimbra to visit the city and "Portugal dos Pequenitos" a small property with miniatures of the main monuments of Portugal and traditional houses from the different regions where children can play and discover the architecture of our country. In the afternoon you will arrive at Serra da Estrela Mountain.

Accommodation for 2 nights at Casa das Penhas Douradas Design Hotel****

Day 5 - Hiking at Serra da Estrela Mountain with Gourmet Picnic lunch and Kayaking in one of the mountain's lagoons in the afternoon. At the end of the day, we suggest a relaxing massage at the hotel (not included).

Day 6 - Hotel check-out and proceed to Douro Valley, to overnight in this region.

Accommodation for 2 nights at The Vintage House Douro*****

Day 7 - Free morning and Sailing Cruise at Douro River with light lunch onboard. At the end of the day, return to the hotel.

Day 8 - Hotel Check-out and departure to Porto, visiting the city of Guimarães on the way.

Accommodation for 2 nights at Infante Sagres Hotel*****

Day 9 - Day to visit the city of Porto on your own (Optional: Private Half-Day Tour to Porto with driver and guide).

Day 10 - Hotel Check-out and proceed to Porto airport. Car delivery at the airport.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that due to the increasing popularity of the town of Sintra, during high season (May - September), traffic jams are to occur and may cause you some inconveniences. As an alternative, we strongly recommend a full-day private tour with driver and guide. Your visit will be more comfortable and peaceful with a driver who will take care of all the logistics.

Lisbon, capital of Portugal, located at the mouth of the Tagus River and from where the Portuguese boats set sail overseas in the 15^th and 16^th centuries towards East. At that time, the Maritime Discoveries period, the city became the center of a large empire, still visible in the monuments of Belém section. Well known for its historic traditional neighborhoods you'll be amazed with the sections of Chiado, Bairro alto and Alfama as well as the Castle of Saint George and the gorgeous views you can enjoy from the top of its hill.

Sintra and Estoril Coast. Among the sites you shall not miss in Portugal there's Sintra, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for the great beauty of its nature and architecture, with fairy tale palaces and lush vegetation. Cascais and Estoril Coast are places of charm and aristocratic traditions that you'll meet along the Atlantic Ocean, the white sandy beaches and magnificent fortresses from the 17^th century.

Coimbra is the city of the students because it was here that the first university in Portugal was created, nowadays the oldest and one of the most important in the country. You shall not miss the Baroque Library from the 18^th century that is one of the highlights of the visit to Coimbra. In its city centre you'll wander among Romanesque and Manueline churches at the same time you stroll across its commercial busy area.

Serra da Estrela is one of largest mountain ranges in Portugal, at 1993 m (6,539 feet) above mean sea level at its highest point. This point is not a distinctive mountain summit, but rather the highest point in a plateau, being known as Torre ("Tower" in English). Due to its bizarrely shaped crags and gorges, mountain streams and lakes, beautiful forests and magnificent views, the area ranks among Portugal's outstanding scenic attractions.

Douro Valley is where the terraced hill slopes hide one of the country's most valuable treasures: the beautiful vineyards from where the worldwide famous Port wine is still nowadays produced. Driving through Marão Mountain range get prepared to enjoy one of the most wonderful landscapes in the world, with endless rows of vines dotting the slopes in the banks of the Douro River. We advise you to visit one of the wineries in the region and taking a river cruise.

Guimarães is the cradle of Portugal as this is where our first king, Afonso Henriques, was born and where he began the nation. You shall not miss the visit of the Ducal Palace, the Castle and walking along the narrow streets of the historic centre (declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO) till the charming Praça da Oliveira (Oliveira Square).

Porto is at the same time the name of a city and a fortified wine, one of the most famous in the world, aged at the wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, next to the Douro River. Its historical center has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and preserves many beautiful monuments, namely from the Baroque period which is contemporary to the glory and wealth achieved with the trade of Port Wine. You shall not miss a visit to the Cathedral (Sé), the Church of Saint Francis and the Clérigos Tower.
