...Of course you have already heard about Fado. It's the national song style of Portugal. Fado means fate and it's always sung with emotion (when it's performed by a good singer, which sometimes it's hard to find). There are of course very good and well-known Portuguese Singers that sing in great events all over the world. But usually, you'll not find them at Fado Restaurants. Please, be careful with the restaurant you choose to listen to Fado.

We, the Portuguese, usually say that it's hard to find a restaurant that has simultaneously these 4 important factors: Good Fado Singers, Good Ambiance, Good Food,  and Good Service! Believe us: it's really hard! Mainly because of tourism demand, it's difficult to have quality and quantity side-by-side. But, as you may know already, we always look for a personalized and quality experience for you. "Don't feel as a tourist, feel like a traveler with us": this sentence well describes our way of work. So, We've found an excellent Fado Restaurant in Lisbon and, we'll be glad to escort you to a dinner with a Fado show.

There are different theories about the origin of Fado, but it started to be known in the 19th century on the traditional neighborhoods of Lisbon. Soon the old taverns turned into "Casas de Fado" where one could listen to the guitar players and Fado singers performing every night. To play, there are two different guitars, the Spanish guitar with 6 strings and the Portuguese guitar with 12 strings. The sound is something unique and invites us to involve in the emotion the player is trying to demonstrate. The singer, male or female, shall have a voice capable of transmitting the feeling and soul of the song being performed, it is so intense that you don't even need to understand Portuguese to understand the song theme. Fado usually is about sorrow, longing for a lost love, tragedy, fate and destiny, love and jealousy, criticizes society, and also talks about the daily life (a lady selling flowers on the street, fisherman coming back from fishing, country and city life, bullfights, among others).

Fado usually is performed during a dinner, in a local and traditional restaurant. You may arrive early to the restaurant in time to order your meal before the show starts. Then, the singer and the two guitar players will come to the room and perform 3-4 songs - when they're in the room silence is requested and the lights are turned off in order to have only the ambiance of the candles on the guest's tables. When they go, you continue eating and chatting, and when they come again after a few minutes, they will perform 3-4 songs again, and it goes all night long.
