Alentejo is the widest region of Portugal. Here the landscape is "gentle" composed by rolling hills covered by cork oak trees, vineyards and wheat fields. The lifestyle is serene in the small villages with white washed houses where the time slowly passes by… The gastronomy is robust and creative with wines to match it, in contrast with the calmness of the local people of the region.
Monsaraz is an ancient medieval village surrounded by walls, with narrow streets and beautiful monuments made with whitewashed schist stone. From its castle and walls you can sight marvelous landscapes, with the rural fields and the surprising Alqueva Lake at the distance.
Adega da Cartuxa takes its name from the ancient Cartuxa Monastery, located right next to the property. The setting is the former refectory of the retreat of the Jesuits. It will be on this atmosphere that you'll be able to visit this estate, understanding the wine production of one of the most important region from Alentejo. At the end of the visit you will have a very interesting wine tasting.
Évora is abeautiful small town in the Alentejo region. Still surrounded by the old walls this is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and will attract you for its medieval appearance, the narrow streets, the historical centre and the kindness of the locals. Amongst several interesting monuments, you shall not miss the Roman Temple from the 1st century, unique of this kind in both Portugal and Spain. This is also the perfect place for a great gastronomic and wine experience, as this is one of the regions in Portugal with more traditions and quality at this level. You shall not miss the opportunity of having a great meal in one of the city's restaurants.
Beja had its most important era since one of the main roman roads passed throw, being named as "Pax Julia" by Emperor Julius Caesar. Its Castle is one good example of the Portuguese military architecture, where there is still the "Doors of Beja", a roman arch used as one of the main doors to connecting the city to the Roman Empire. In the Regional Museum you will find an important collection of tiles, sacred art, painting and archeology.
Malhadinha Nova is a charming small property in the Alentejo where you will find a true oasis of tranquility… Besides very comfortable and elegant rooms you will be surrounded by a world of genuine experiences that invite you to relax: a guided tour through the vineyards followed by a wine tasting of the property wines; a cooking class; a romantic pic nic by the river… Here all you have to do is relax…
