Peaceful nature and historical villages

Day 1 to day 4– Arrival to Lisbon and car collection at the Airport. Departure towards the Alentejo.

Once you've arrived to Portugal you can pick up your car at the airport and start driving towards Marvão crossing the country from West to East. Located at the highest hill of the Alentejo in the São Mamede Mountain Marvão has remained unconquered throughout the centuries. The old castle walls somehow stopped not just the many enemies but also the arrival of the stressful modern life allowing the old white washed houses to maintain its authenticity of the past. Just a short drive away lays Castelo de Vide and its ancient castle protecting its medieval neighborhood that you can explore discovering hidden alleys and almost forgotten secrets... If you want to plan a different day then you just need to head to the best Portuguese stud farm in Alter do Chão and admire all of the horsemanship involved on an equestrian show or even to ride one of these amazing animals. But on the other hand if you just want to relax at the hotel let yourself conquer by the inviting waters of the swimming pool or just stroll around some of the paths of the property enjoying the sounds of silence.

Three nights’ accommodation at Quinta do Barrieiro (Marvão)

"Surrounded by the amazing scenery of Serra de S. Mamede Natural Park, Quinta do Barrieiro is located very close to Marvão. In an environment that contrasts with the typical landscape of Alentejo, the lime, the schist, the water and the green give a special charm to this place. But what really distinguishes it, making it unique, is the artistic sensibility of its owners. With his architectonic expertise, José Manuel Coelho managed to skillfully explore the specificity of the region’s typical architecture and materials. He has designed an involving scenic space that superbly blends modernity and tradition. A rural-chic landscape that is the perfect exhibition stage to the amazing metal/stone sculptures of his wife, Maria Leal da Costa."

Day 4 to day 7– Departure to Marialva

Leaving Marvão behind it's time to head up north to Marialva one of the many traditional Portuguese villages. In Marialva you will soon realise that you are now breeding the deep Portugal when entering the medieval village of Marialva. In the past the Portuguese were forced to fortify one village after another to prevent the Spanish enemies from conquering this land. All of these villages still preserve its medieval character like Almeida or Sernancelhe. Just a very short drive away is located one of the largest Rock Art Sites in the World in Vila Nova de Foz Côa. If you don't want to drive than there are so many other activities for you and your family to enjoy such as a lovely swimming pool, mountain bikes to rent that you can use to explore with your children all of the trails around Marialva, cruises in the Douro river or for an unforgettable experience a hot air balloon afternoon admiring the serenity of the landscape up in the air.

Three nights’ accommodation at Casas do Côro (Marialva)

"Casas do Côro are located in the heart of the medieval Marialva, a historical Portuguese village, in a region where the signs of man reach as far back as the Paleolithic era. The refurbishment of these centuries old houses and the harmonious combination of the structures’ granite with the refined decor are an astonishing surprise. The atmosphere is rustic, yet doesn’t compromise the comfort demanded by the times and afforded by the surrounding space. From the panoramic terraces the region’s landscape may be appreciated, replete with hills, deep valleys, and meandering rivers, a constant invitation to the practice of sports or the enjoyment of unforgettable walks. Relish in the traditional sweets early in the morning and avoid missing a fulfilling lunch characteristic of the local gastronomy, well accompanied by wine from the cellar and vineyard of Casas do Côro."

Day 7 – Departure to Lisbon and overnight at hotel in the city

Today it will be the time to return to the capital of Portugal: Lisbon. If you still want to enjoy the rest of the day exploring the surroundings of the Hotel or just relaxing make sure you leave at least some time to explore Lisbon. Lisbon is a lively european capital where present and past live just side by side. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the largest Aquarium in Europe: the "Oceanário" (your children will be amazed) or to climb up the walls of the Saint George Castle at the top of the highest hill of Lisbon. If you still have time have a look at the area of Belém where hundreds of years of history await you in the monuments that celebrate the Portuguese discoveries of the past.
